Travelling in CZ: Hodonice Market in August

Hodonice Flea Market was one of the events I am trying to visit for some time. It happens once a month, every first Saturday of each month. Nevertheless, it takes around hour drive to get there, and event starts at 7am, so you can imagine the effort it takes to get there. 😀 August weather was relatively nice, so I finally gathered my thoughts and woke up earlier to drive to this market.

I have to mention that it was my first time there, and the market itself is quite huge. You arrive on large open area, leave your car on the grass parking and just go to the stands. Even though even starts early, in summer it can get pretty hot in few hours, so be sure to have some cap to cover your head.

Overall, market can be divided into two areas – free and paid one. Free section is situated right in front of parking, while paid one can be accessed via special “checkpoint”. Entrance fee is 50CZK, so it is worth checking it out as well.

As it was my first time in Hodonice, I decided to look around and see what can be found here. No big purchases were planned, even though I managed to catch nice plates set for 100CZK. Just like on any flea market, be sure to negotiate the price, as some sellers are willing to reduce it a bit. This is even more of a must if you are getting several things from the same vendor.

Whole even finishes at around 11-ish, so be sure to check the time as it flies really fast. I managed to check whole market really quickly, but if you start checking items on some stands, then it is definitely worth to arrive earlier. Of course, this will also give you the better chance of catching something interesting before it is sold.

I plan to go there again, so stay tuned for another report soon. 🙂
