This time I would like to tell you a bit more about glass factory which I wanted to visit for a long time. Ruckl Glass is quite old business, and it is notable for brave design of their products. Moreover, those things are quite rare, so it was interesting to see everything in person. Should I even mention my face when I heard about open doors even on this factory. It is only one hour drive from Prague, so not that far away, and I have to say that such trip was absolutely worth it. Let’s see in detail.
First I recommend to check the video-report, where you can see masters in action.
Whole event was organized as a small tour around the factory. Guide and workers were ready to tell you more about their work and why this or that method is used for making glass products. Everything started in a small room with examples of various stages of manufacturing process. I have to note that it could be better if guide would have had the microphone on her, as sometimes it was hard to hear some words. ๐
On the photo above you can see wooden forms which are used for shaping. Another interesting thing is the drawings which are noticeable in the lower left corner.
Yes, those were vases from the new collection named “Heroine”. I have to admit that those products look impressive in person, but price tag is something you should be ready for.
Well, after you take another look at amount of work invested into those, and remember that all this is hand-made, then price doesn’t look THAT high. I liked the fact that those drawings and pictures were available, as they give better understanding of the development process.
As I mentioned, other stages of manufacturing were also shown in the same room. You could even try and touch the sand which is used for this glass. On the photo above you can see special machine for sharpening and cleaning glass.
Of course, the best part is the actual department where glass products are created. It is a bit hot around due to open ovens, but this is something we all can expect.
Master in front of us made the vase, small bird and some other minor things. It is amazing how quickly the work was performed and you can see it in action in our video-report.
This vase with cut edges was quite impressive, especially after you see how those edges are made. It is pure manual work, and all movements were precise and fast.
On the cover and on the photo above you can see engraving department. I have to note that visitors could try glass-blowing as well as engraving. I decided to try engraving only, and it was interesting to see how all those designs are made. Edgy vase on the photo looks way too good in person, and this guy said that it works nicely with some candle lit inside. Well, this is definitely an item on my purchase list. ๐
In case you’ve missed this event – don’t worry, as Ruckl makes trips around factory even on the normal days. This is great experience, so I recommend to try it if you are interested in such type of products. Moreover, it is always amazing to try some new thing, and glass-blowing or engraving sound like something unusual to do.
Of course, don’t forget that you can get those items from Ruckl official webshop, so if you are far from the factory, it is still possible to get one of those angular beauties.
Thank you for reading and I will be back soon with another interesting trip. ๐
